This past weekend was the first stop of the Kootenay Rockies Enduro Series in Kimberley, BC. The 6-stage race had a nice mix of flow, fast and downright rocky gnar. It’s a great course that tests endurance as well as technical skill.
I am happy to have taken 5 of the 6 stages in the Masters category, and the overall win. Stage 4 is a bit of a nemesis of mine after double flatting last year, so I took it a bit too cautious and certainly lost some time on a stage on which I should have been very strong. But sometimes consistency is the key, and I held good pace on all the other stages to make up for it.
The second stop of the KR Series goes down this weekend in Canmore, in what should prove to be a much more pedally course. While I’m feeling strong, this type of course isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but I hope the hard work I’ve put in the off season sees me on the top step again.
Otherwise I’m busy getting things lined up for Rossland’s Rubberehead Enduro (Aug. 2), which is part of both the BC and KR Enduro Series. This is the 7th year I’ve run this race, and am expecting great attendance and a fun weekend in Rossland and at Red Resort, including a beer tasting event and live entertainment.
